Blue Devils a Problem? Meet Cordy Roy
We call him 'Roy.' He came to live with us after my daughter's first birthday; a gift from her "Uncle" Doug. Roy's main source of food happens to be Blue Devils. Luckily for him we tend to have a lot of those pesky little creatures running around these parts. Unfortunately, his stomach has been growling as of lately since the hunting season for Blue Devils doesn't really get going until the fall months. Here's hoping for a full stomach come cooler months.

Flip'n Friday
Every Friday I will post a short moving picture. I know this is very ambitious, but it will keep me on my toes. At times it may be as simple as a single shot or interview and other times it may be more involved. I am running behind tonight because we have had family visiting from Atlanta today. It helped to multitask by shooting one of our chores before they arrived instead of expanding our list. Enjoy!

After the Rain
We have wonderful thunderstorms here in the summer and we had a good one two nights ago. When we woke up in the morning we explored outside and my daughter had fun playing in the water. It was very relaxing playing outside.
Normally I don't have to go to work in the summer, but I usually have a big project to work on. Yet, it feels very odd to not have anything pressing to do. Usually I am on a schedule during the summer because I have to be done by August so it is similar to still having to go to work. I wonder when I will get used to this new unstructured life?

The Holga
I have thinking about my next film order and realized that we haven't used our Holga recently. This is partly due to the fact that I dropped it the last time I had it out and now there is a loose piece rattling around inside. Hopefully, it is an easy fix because it would be fun to have some bright summer-y Holga pics.

Publicity Pains
One of the hardest part of filmmaking for me is marketing my work when I have finished the film. Luckily, the last film that I used was about a photographer and I was able to use the stills we shot for the film as publicity for the film. The character photographed flowers as shown above. Now, I am considering how to create publicity for my newest documentary and have been looking back at what I did in the past for inspiration.

Here's To New Beginnings
Recently I have begun a new chapter in my life. Until May 10th I worked as a professor of film and video production at a local college. Due to shifts in the department I worked in I felt that my contributions where not as relevant as they once where and I was feeling very stagnant in the department. It was hard to leave because I love my students and will miss them dearly. While I love teaching and still believe it may be my calling I need time to focus on myself.
I plan on spending this next year focusing on my filmmaking and my newly one year-old daughter. For the past few years I have wanted to make a feature length documentary about ballerinas and would like to spend the next year focusing on making it happen. My daughter is starting to walk and is in the beginning stages of developing her own language while she learns English as well. It is an exciting time for her and I am thrilled to have the time to learn with her.
It is somewhat scary to not have a job per-say. I have been working for a paycheck since I was 16 years-old. I never thought I would have to be financially supported by my husband. So here I go. I welcome you to my life as a FAHM (that's Filmmaker At Home Mom).
