Hello Boulder!

This is the view from one of our new favorite coffee shops to frequent on Pearl Street. It is only a few steps away from the Boulder Bookstore, which is my daughter's favorite place to visit and only a couple doors away from where Ballet Arts used to be located. Sigh.

My daughter and I usually visit a coffee shop once a week or so for an outing. In a past life I was a barista for beaucoup years. I rocked a dry skim cappuccino that people would request for me to make (one of my cappuccino fans, in Chapel Hill, was Daniel Wallace who wrote Big Fish). This week we visited the Brewing Market  at Basmar (I worked at the Village Brewing Market during and after college) and my daughter ordered a decaf chai and after choosing a table to sit out opened her backpack, proceeded to pull out various notebooks and a pencil. Apparently, she needed to get some writing done. This was her plan for going to the coffee shop that day; of which I was unaware. I wish she needed to get writing done when I need to get editing done.

Goodbye Denver!

On one of our last nights in Denver we somehow ended up on the Speer exit of I-25 and I snapped this picture of our city. Years ago, living in Boulder, I might come to Denver once, maybe, twice a year (usually for concerts or a random museum visit, and I went to Cherry Creek Mall once in high school) and always used Speer to get everywhere. I would always get lost on a Denver visit and would always think, "just get me to Speer and I can figure out where I am." Now, I barely ever have to get on Speer and can maneuver all around downtown. I hope that I will not lose that knowledge now that I am leaving.

Snow Storm

This weekend we got a pretty big storm, which left about ten inches. My daughter has ballet class on Saturday mornings and they weren't canceled so we went out in it. It was cold enough that the snow wasn't melting so it was just packing down on the road and getting very slick. On our way home I got stuck twice and slid across all the lanes of the highway. Needless to say I decided not to go to my dance class later that day.

In true Colorado fashion the next day the roads were good to go and we were out running errands and preparing for a late afternoon party that we were attending. Tonight I am going to an extra dance class to make up for the one I missed!

Leaving the Lofts

When we first moved to Downtown Denver I remember worrying that the lights and street noises would keep my awake, but arriving back in Boulder the darkness and stillness has made sleeping harder. As the weeks go by it gets a little better, but I still think I prefer the city noises. Maybe I need a night light and one of those machines that make noises. (When I lived in Wilmington, NC, I had one that made sounds of the ocean, but I think it was more to block out the sounds of our neighbors fighting)

I took a bunch of pictures our last night in Denver and have been wanting to post them, but I used my phone and Google, in trying to get people to migrate over to Google+, somehow made it impossible to send pictures from your phone to Picasa. It just stopped working one day a few weeks ago. I searched online and found that many people where experiencing the same issues as me, which is always a relief - knowing your are not alone when things are going wrong. Combining this lack of picture access along with my stress over moving has kept me away from the blog for awhile, but I should be back now. And, somehow, I got one picture to migrate over and it was the best one!

The disorganization of our new house has been a huge distraction for me. We have limited kitchen cabinets and I there were many built-in elements of our loft that I relied on as furniture so I have been working all of that out and it has left me exhausted. On Saturday we had a ridiculous snow storm and I know have pictures on the wall and that really makes me feel like my house is a home. More soon.
